Compound turbo bearing-seal leaks

Symptoms
- oil traces in the exhaust/downpipe; oil wetting the DPF inlet
- oil consumption without external leaks; boost whine change
- secondary: DPF ash-loading accelerates from the oil
Root cause
The sequential compound VGT (a 6.4 first on pickups) runs two turbo stages; bearing-seal wear lets oil into the hot side, out the exhaust and into the DPF - the sourced history names the seals then the DPF-clog/oil-loss chain. Replacement turbo decisions are engine-bay-major.
Diagnosis
- inspect the downpipe/DPF inlet for oil wetting
- end-play check on both turbo stages; check charge side for oil too (seal direction tells the stage)
- rule out pedestal-level leaks (6.0/7.3 pattern) - the 6.4's leak points differ
