Recipe - Ford 6.0L Power Stroke

Reliability build

Reliability tier: aggregated - verify before ordering, see /disclosure/

Preventive baseline for a stock, healthy 6.0 with no current failures. Addresses the known weak points that are cheap now and expensive later, without opening the cooling system or the heads. Do this before adding any power.

Parts

Install order

  1. load-test both batteries; clean terminals; replace if weak
  2. install coolant filter kit; then flush and refill with fresh HOAT coolant
  3. replace both fuel filters
  4. install blue spring in the fuel pressure regulator; verify pressure with a gauge (target set by SME)
  5. replace the degas bottle cap

Expected outcome

Removes the cheapest, highest-value failure risks. Does NOT bulletproof the truck - the EGR cooler, oil cooler and head gaskets are untouched.

Do not

Estimated cost: $400-$900 parts, no labor (rough - pending step 6 pricing) · All DIY with hand tools and a weekend. The coolant filter kit is the only slightly involved part.
