Recipe - Ford 6.0L Power Stroke
Mild Power Reliable build
Reliability tier: contested - verify before ordering, see /disclosure/
A modest, streetable power bump (tune + supporting mods) done the right way - on a bulletproofed, studded bottom-of-the-cascade truck. Adding power to a 6.0 on factory head bolts is the fastest way to lift heads. This recipe is bulletproof-premium PLUS the power supporting parts. NOT emissions-legal if the tune modifies emissions calibration - confirm the tune's legal status for the vehicle and jurisdiction.
Parts
- head-stud-kit (part category - specific model not chosen) - REQUIRED before any power - see part-6-0-head-stud-kit-arp and the premium recipe (qty 1)
- head-gasket-set (part category - specific model not chosen) - with the studs; dowel-matched (qty 1)
- 6.0L Power Stroke EGR Cooler, upgraded (Bullet Proof Diesel) - the cooling upgrades from premium carry over (qty 1)
- 6.0L Power Stroke External / Relocated Oil Cooler Kit (Bullet Proof Diesel) - carries over from premium (qty 1)
- tune (part category - specific model not chosen) - a conservative street tune - the actual power. Choose a reputable tuner; verify legal status (qty 1)
- gauge-monitor (part category - specific model not chosen) - EGT, boost, trans temp, fuel pressure - you must be able to watch a tuned 6.0 (qty 1)
- 6.0L Power Stroke Fuel Pressure Regulator "Blue Spring" Upgrade Kit - the tune leans harder on fuel pressure (qty 1)
- 6.0L Power Stroke Fuel Filter Set (HFCM lower + secondary/upper) - fresh filters for the higher fuel demand (qty 1)
- 6.0L Power Stroke FICM Power Supply (rebuild board, higher output) - higher-output FICM helps injector performance under a tune (qty 1)
Install order
- complete recipe-6-0-bulletproof-premium first (or confirm it is already done)
- blue spring + fuel filters; FICM power supply
- install gauges / monitor
- load the tune; start conservative; watch EGT and boost on every pull for the first weeks
Expected outcome
A modest, drivable power increase on a truck built to take it. EGTs and boost stay in safe ranges with a conservative tune and the studded heads hold.
Do not
- do not load any tune on factory head bolts
- do not run an aggressive / competition tune on a street 6.0
- do not tow at elevated EGT without watching the gauge
- do not assume the tune is emissions-legal - many are not; that is on the owner
Estimated cost: $3500-$6000 parts incremental over a bare truck (rough); assumes premium bulletproof is included · The build is a shop job (it is premium + extras). Tune loading and monitoring is owner-side.
